The wonder of the Women’s Circle

Have you ever wondered what goes on in a Women’s Circle?

A lot, that’s what. From my experience there is laughter, sometimes tears, hugging, occasionally swearing. There’s movement, stillness, sharing, reflection, contemplation and so much more.

It is a nourishing circle. An equal circle. A circle where all feelings are welcome. The women in the circles I have attended bring anger, sadness, fear but also joy, happiness and optimism. I love that they are not afraid of the ‘negative’ feelings. The feelings we sometimes feel we have to hide because they can make others feel awkward or uncomfortable. Where else can you go where all your feelings are valid and seen. Where the other women look you in the eye and literally say ‘I’ve got you’ and ‘I see you’. And they have. For the 2.5 hours I spend in the monthly Women’s Circle we really do see each other. Has anyone said that they’ve got you recently? Do you feel seen by others?

It is a wonderful way to spend some quality time. To connect with other women and to share and be encouraged to open up. That’s not to say it always feel relaxed. There are times when it can feel awkward or a bit uncomfortable but it is always supportive. It is always for the good.

Each circle is unique with a different dynamic and energy each month, bringing with it true authenticity. There is something very special about authenticity at a time where it is easy to attribute someone’s worth with money, material possessions, academic achievement and job titles, rather than honesty, having the courage to be vulnerable, to offer a listening ear and support for others.

When did you last do something where people were willing to be vulnerable, open up and be their authentic selves? When was the last time you felt you could really be yourself and share how you were feeling or to say what it is you really want?
