What exactly is health coaching?
A Health Coach is trained to support clients in achieving their health goals through diet and lifestyle changes. The nature of coaching means that a Health Coach will work with a client in a way that enables the client to identify ways in which to improve their health outcomes themselves. Coaching is an empowering and transformative process as it seeks to put the client in control. Health coaches take an integrative and holistic approach which means looking at all areas of a clients life, understanding that these areas will all contribute to, and impact someone’s overall health and wellbeing.
Is coaching the same as therapy?
No. Coaching and therapy are two very different modalities and shouldn’t be confused. A therapist will support a client with various mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and addiction and will often look at a client’s past experiences. A coach is more present and future orientated and focussed on supporting a client to set and achieve future goals. A coach’s aim is to equip the client with the knowledge, strategies and mindset needed to enable them to take a proactive and confident approach to their lifestyle.
Coaching seems expensive, why?
Working with a coach may seem expensive initially but remember that you buying into a bespoke, personalised service. Each interaction is unique and cannot be repeated or resold. The time you spend with a coach is time solely dedicated to you, your goals and your success. You are drawing upon someone’s knowledge and expertise as well as their time. The nature of working with a coach also means that the cost of the session goes beyond the time you physically spend with a coach as you will be implementing changes to your life which should be supporting you to achieve your goals all the time. It is also worth considering your own mindset around money. Your money mindset is your core beliefs around saving, spending and handling money and these beliefs are often driven by our subconscious mind and will influence the decisions you make about your money. I never pressure anyone into signing up for a package but if you feel worried about spending money on coaching we can talk this through in a free, 20 minute clarity call.
How does coaching with you actually work?
I would encourage you to book in a free, 20 minute clarity call to discuss your reasons for wanting to work with me, what your health goals are at the time of the call and together we can discuss which package would suit you best. You can then decide if you are happy to commit to a coaching package. Once you are on board I will ask for full payment before the first session (the 12 week package can be paid in 2 installments if necessary) and I will send you some initial paperwork to fill out. We will then schedule in a time for our weekly sessions. The first session for all packages is a 90 minute strategy session where I will take a health history and will talk about your health goals in more detail.
Do you offer one off sessions?
No. The reason being is that it is very difficult to achieve any real results in such a short period of time. Coaching (and particularly my coaching ethos) is not a quick ‘just tell me what to do and I’ll go and do it’ type approach. I believe coaching to be a journey and for that to happen (and for it to be successful journey!) time is needed in order to create opportunities for you to discuss and ask questions, reflect on your progress, implement and embed new routines and habits and to feel confident that you can go forward independently when your sessions have ended. Making changes to your health is not something that will happen overnight so if you are serious about wanting to make changes to your overall wellbeing then you also need to be serious about committing to a package of sessions which will give you the best possible chance of becoming the healthy, happy person you want to be! If you feel apprehensive about committing to a series of sessions, have a think about why this might be and what might be holding you back. We can discuss this in more detail during a clarity call if you wish.
